Nuggets & Knicks Huge Fight – 10 Ejected
December 17, 2006NEW YORK — Ten players, including NBA scoring leader Carmelo Anthony, were ejected for fighting during a wild brawl near the end of Saturday night’s game between the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks.
Punches were thrown and players flew into the crowd in the NBA’s ugliest scene since Indiana Pacers players fought with Detroit Pistons’ fans on the court and in the stands in 2004.
This time, it happened at Madison Square Garden, right in the hometown of NBA headquarters.
“I feel bad for the league, I feel bad for the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks,” Nuggets coach George Karl said. “Very poor display of respecting basketball and respecting the game in the best place in the world to play basketball.”
Anthony appeared to throw one of the punches, and now awaits what will surely be strong punishment from a league still trying to repair its image after the melee in Auburn Hills, Mich.
“Something’s going to happen, but we shall see and wait,” Anthony said. “I don’t really want to comment on that right now.”

NYTIMES article on Young Jeezy
December 13, 2006
Though the Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy appears to be as cocky as they come, he never thought he would top the Billboard charts when he released his major-label debut album, “Let’s Get it: Thug Motivation 101,” last year. Chock full of gritty rhymes about his life on the wrong side of the law, the album turned him into a critics’ darling and a spokesman for Any Hood, U.S.A., and the antihero of suburban fans across the county.
“I knew I’d do well in the streets, but I didn’t think I’d do so well in the mainstream,” he said over brunch at a Midtown Manhattan hotel. “A lot of people can’t handle the truth.”
Apparently they can. The album sold nearly two million copies at a time when a third of that is considered impressive. And fans weren’t buying just his music. Jeezy, also known as the Snowman (a not-so-veiled reference to his days has a cocaine dealer), had listeners sporting T-shirts featuring sinister-looking Frosties. Now he’s back with a new album, “The Inspiration,” released yesterday, which again offers snapshots of life knee-deep in Atlanta’s mean streets. The rapper, a self-professed “perfectionist,” said he recorded 120 songs and chose what he believed were the best 16 for the album.

Jada Pinkett Smith Donates $1 Mill In Honor of Tupac
December 12, 2006
Jada Pinkett Smith just made history at the school she and Tupac attended, generously donating $1 million earmarked for renovation and expansion.
Jada Pinkett Smith offered the funds from her Baltimore-based charity, the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation. The couple had previously donated $112,500 to the Baltimore school.
Pinkett Smith’s donation is the largest ever from a graduate of the BaltimoreSchool for the Arts. The school has announced plans to name their new theater after her, however Pinkett Smith has requested that the theater be dedicated to her late friend and former classmate Tupac Shakur.
“She knew how brilliant he was and just thought it was only fitting to dedicate it to him,” Karen Banfield Evans, Pinkett Smith’s aunt and executive director of the Smith Family Foundation told the Associated Press.
